Mural to Sarah Hegazi to be revealed in Brighton on Saturday, September 5

Graham Robson September 2, 2020

A mural is to be revealed for Egyptian human rights activist Sarah Hegazi in front of the 30 Grand Parade building, which crosses with Morley Street, on Saturday, September 5 from 12pm.

Sarah Hegazi took her own life while in exile in Canada. She claimed asylum there after being arrested, detained and tortured for raising the LGBTQ+ flag at a concert in Cairo in 2017.

At the mural’s reveal, speakers will highlight the LGBTQ+ struggle in Egypt (schedule TBA) and organisers are asking those interested in attending to bring a flower, water, a mask and a flag/sign, light a candle and leave a message for victims of rainbow struggles.

Respect Social Distancing and Stay Safe:
Please do not attend if you have symptoms or if you live with someone who has them. In addition, the organisers are running a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for the mural as the artists are donating with their efforts. To help cover the mural’s expenses CLICK HERE.
