Rainbow Chorus to sing at memorial service celebrating the life of Arthur Henry Law today, Sunday, July 15.
THE memorial will take place at St George Church, 93 St George’s Road, Kemptown, Brighton starting at 3pm.
Arthur, one of the most significant activists of his generation, was active in Brighton and Hove starting from the 1980’s when it was still illegal to be gay if you were under 21.
Through the protests against Section 28 he helped organise, to his involvement in the ground breaking community led research projects Zorro and Count Me In Too, his contribution to the well being of the LGBT+communities in Brighton and Hove was immense.
He was a pioneer, with no fears when it came to challenging the statutory authorities and holding them to account.
His work delivering LGBT awareness training to the command team at Sussex Police in the early 1990’s, was groundbreaking at a time when relationships between the police and the LGBT communities did not enjoy the levels of trust and confidence they do today.
The Rainbow Chorus will sing at the celebration with a buffet provided by Lunch Positive. Arthur was a great believer in food being important in bringing people together. The last two projects he worked on as a volunteer were at Lunch Positive who provide a weekly hot meal to people with HIV and the Voices in Exile Refugee Project where he cooked meals, often in his own home to make sure refugees and asylum seekers in Brighton and Hove always had a healthy meal in their stomachs.
