“Qatar is a homophobic, sexist dictatorship.” Peter Tatchell Foundation to lead peaceful protest against State Visit of leader of Qatar

Graham Robson December 3, 2024

On Tuesday, December 3 from 10.30am, the Peter Tatchell Foundation will lead a peaceful protest against the State Visit of the leader of Qatar, outside Buckingham Palace as he arrives in the State Coach.

Pliny Soocoormanee, Executive Officer of Peter Tatchell Foundation, said: “Qatar is a homophobic, sexist dictatorship where basic human rights are trampled on. LGBTQ+ people face persecution, imprisonment and even the death penalty. Women continue to be treated as second-class citizens. This is not a regime to be celebrated or given the honour of a State Visit.

“By turning up, we send a powerful message: Britain must not turn a blind eye to the human rights abuses carried out by the Qatari regime. Silence in the face of oppression is complicity.”

All are welcome to join. The protest will take place at Canada Gate, Green Park, adjacent to Buckingham Palace. Recommended Tube stops: Hyde Park Corner or Green Park as crossing the Mall will be difficult.

Soocoormanee added: “Bring your voice, your signs, and your passion. Together, we can make noise loud enough to be heard – a Qataris who are silenced by oppression.

“Let’s stand on the right side of history.”
