North Herts Pride, a local non-profit dedicated to supporting and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community across North Hertfordshire, has launched a Crowdfunder after a rainbow bench was “deliberately set on fire”.
The LGBTQ+ organisation said: “We installed a rainbow bench at the top of Windmill Hill — a bold, beautiful symbol of visibility and belonging. For many in our community, it represents safety, pride, and a reminder that we are not alone. It’s a place where people have sat, reflected, celebrated, and simply existed in peace.
“Recently, the bench was deliberately set on fire. While badly damaged, it was not destroyed. The rainbow remains. The plaque, though partially burned, still carries its message: ‘Love Conquers All’.”
North Herts Pride organises inclusive events, safe spaces, and opportunities for connection — from Pride festivals to community meet-ups — all rooted in the belief that everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are.
