A representative of the Republican party in the United States has called for an American Bishop to be “deported” after she told President Donald Trump to his face that “trans children and immigrants are scared of you’.
Speaking at Trump’s inaugural prayer service, Bishop Mariann Budde, who was born in the US and is a US citizen, said: “Millions have put their trust in you.
“There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in both Democratic, Republican and independent families who fear for their lives.”
Following the sermon at Washington National Cathedral, Mike Collins, a Georgia Republican, called for Budde to be deported: “The person giving this sermon should be added to the deportation list.”
Trump and Vice President JD Vance were given the lecture by Budde in Washington, leaving the President and Vice President looking stone-faced.
She added: “May God grant us the strength and courage to honour the dignity of every human being.”
Speaking to press afterwards, Trump said he “didn’t think it was a good service”.
“They could do much better”, he added before walking away.
Trump launched an unprecedented attack on America’s trans communities after being sworn back into office.
One of his first executive orders require federal agencies to define sex as strictly either male or female, thus eliminating recognition of transgender and nonbinary identities at the federal level.
Trump is also expected to ban trans people from serving in the US military and ban trans women from participating in women’s sports.
