One hundred dogs have signed up for the inaugural ‘Pooches on the Prom’ event, but where are the British Bulldogs?

The Martlets are staging their first ever ‘Pooches on the Prom’ on Brighton seafront at on Sunday, January 19 at 11am.

One eyed mascot, Buster Blass, a King Charles Spaniel, has encouraged over 100 dogs to walk with him to raise money for patient care.

However, despite representation from a wide range of breeds, with a strong turnout of Spaniels and Jack Russells, there is one noticeable exception. So far not one British Bulldog has signed up.

Speaking about the event Director of Fundraising Robert Griffiths said: “We’re delighted that so many pets are getting involved in this event and we welcome dogs of all shapes and sizes. We’re surprised not to have a British Bulldog amongst our list of four legged walkers as they’re such an evocative symbol of courage and determination. We would love one to sign up and be part of this special event.”

For many patients having their pets visit them at the Hospice makes a huge difference to their wellbeing and it is just one of the ways the Martlets Hospice enables people to live well.

All of the money raised by the Hospice’s furry friends will go towards funding the Hospice’s services. Registration is just £5 per dog, although all the pooches taking part are being asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible.

The walk will start at the Hove Lawn Café and there are two routes (to the pier or Madeira Drive and back) depending on how energetic the dogs and their owners are feeling. All the pooches taking part will be rewarded at the end with a doggy treat and a medal.

Registration for the event is still open.
