Final call for ‘Handbags, Hats & Heels’

The Martlets Hospice is appealing for donations of good quality, new or used, handbags, hats and shoes for their exciting charity auction next month.

Donations to the Martlets Hospice charity Auction.

THE Handbags, Hats & Heels sale and auction will take place on Wednesday, February 11, at the Sussex County Cricket Club, and the hunt is on for all styles of handbags, hats and shoes which will help raise money for the hospice.

The local charity has already received a variety of beautiful donations, including handbags from well-known brands such as Radley, Coast, Nine West, Zara and Julian McDonald.

In addition, several local businesses have also contributed items, including a Mulberry Mabel bag donated by Preloved of Brighton; a stylish pair of royal blue Audley Shoes donated by Mo Brog; and Lewes based milliners Lomax and Skinner have donated a flowered and feathered cocktail piece.

However, many more items are needed for the auction, and the organisers hope that the women of Brighton & Hove will help by clearing out their wardrobes and donating their unwanted bags and shoes to be auctioned off and sent to new loving homes.

Antonia Shepherd

Antonia Shepherd, Events Manager for the Martlets, said: “We’ve all got accessories languishing in the back of our wardrobe. From those pretty shoes brought for a special occasion and which haven’t been worn again since, to a gorgeous handbag which perhaps isn’t quite big enough for day to day life anymore – so why not dig them out and help your local hospice.”

Handbags, hats and heels can be donated at special donation boxes found around Brighton, including within Churchill Square shopping centre. Other locations include any of the Martlets’ shops in and around the city and the Hospice itself in Wayfield Avenue, Hove.

Antonia continued: “And if any other local fashion stores wish to make a donation, we’d be really grateful for new items too. Businesses can contact us on 01273 747455 and we can arrange collection.”

All the money raised from the sale and auction will go towards the Martlets’ work caring for adults living in and around Brighton & Hove who are affected by terminal illness.

The Martlets Hospice in Hove provides end of life care services to adults with terminal illness including cancer.  Hospice facilities comprise of an 18 bed InPatient Unit, a Hospice at Home Service, and Day Services for patients and their carers.
