Ending gender discriminatory nationality laws

Gary Hart December 8, 2015

To markĀ Human Rights Day on Thursday, December 10, theĀ Equal Rights TrustĀ will launch,Ā My Childrenā€™s Future, a film calling on governments to end laws which deny women the ability to pass on their nationality to their children on an equal basis with men.

Equal Rights Trust

My Childrenā€™s FutureĀ follows the stories of those affected by such laws in Madagascar and Nepal, highlighting how their entire futures are in question. In one way or another their human rights have been denied; without nationality they are often left stateless and unable to access essential rights such as education, healthcare and jobs.

The film shows the benefits of reform in two countries (Indonesia and Kenya) which have recently amended their laws, through testimony from those affected as well as from those instrumental to reform.
