RECORD BREAKERS: Team Beacon sets fundraising and runner records at Brighton Half Marathon 2025

Graham Robson March 6, 2025

Having recently highlighted a new, expanded lineup of celebrities joining Team Beacon, the group of runners specifically running in aid of the Sussex Beacon at the Brighton Half Marathon, the Beacon has announced two new records in 2025.

Team Beacon, previously comprising around 250 runners, this year contained an incredible 400 people, all supporting the local HIV charity. The second and even more remarkable result is that to date, Team Beacon 2025 has raised a phenomenal sum in excess of £100,000. This money will support the Beacon’s Community Services Team’s work, especially its Women and Families Group Formula Milk Programme, which supports and cares for mothers living with HIV. These results mean the Brighton Half Marathon 2025 is the most successful yet for the Brighton-based HIV charity.

On the day, Team Beacon runners were treated to an early morning warm-up by DS Chris Oliver, from Celebrity SAS Who Dares Wins. Other celebrities within Team Beacon 2025 included actor Craig Parkinson; maths whiz, teacher and TV personality Bobby Seagull; music producer and DJ Matt Robson-Scott; and comedian Patrick Monahan.

They were joined within Team Beacon by hugely popular Brighton-based personalities Alfie Ordinary, Snow White Trash and RJ Campinuff. Alfie has raised the magnificent sum in excess of £2,500, from general fundraising and events including his recent EastEnders-themed cabaret. In addition to running the Brighton Half Marathon, Snow White Trash and RJ Campinuff will also be running in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday, April 6, again on behalf of the Sussex Beacon. RJ has so far raised an extremely impressive amount of almost £1,000, while Snow White Trash’s total currently stands at the extraordinary figure of nearly £4,500 (and rising).

Also new to Team Beacon in 2025 is Chris Ward MP, Member of Parliament for Kemptown and Peacehaven (the catchment area including the Sussex Beacon), who has also exceeded his fundraising target.

Speaking after the race, actor Craig Parkinson commented: “I only started running to support my partner on the park run. A year later and I’m running half marathons! The dedication and hard work that everyone at The Sussex Beacon do is remarkable. It seemed only fair that I show my support for what they do by being a dedicated half marathon runner for Team Beacon. Running and raising funds for them has been my absolute pleasure. Let’s see how much we can raise next year!”

Matt Robson-Scott said “What a beautiful day for it! We had a lovely time and the energy with Team Beacon was firing! It was great to be part of something so positive. Can’t wait for next year already.”

Bobby Seagull added “Running for Team Beacon was such an uplifting experience. It felt Iike I was part of a massive family all supporting and cheering each other on in our efforts for such an important cause. I might have been limping a bit the day after the Brighton Half Marathon, but it was worth it!”

Sussex Freemasons community charity chairman Mike Harris, main sponsor of Team Beacon, said: “Congratulations to the Sussex Beacon for arranging this amazing annual event. The Sussex Freemasons are proud to have the opportunity to sponsor this wonderful charity’s biggest annual fundraiser.”

Rachel Brett, CEO of the Sussex Beacon, added: “The Sussex Beacon’s Brighton Half Marathan has been a significant part of the city’s event calendar for more than 30 years. This year’s race will go down in our history as the sunniest and our most successful fundraiser to date, helping us to support people living with HIV. Thank you to all of our fantastic runners and their supporters; our volunteers and the people of Brighton, for cheering on all of the runners raising funds for the many local and national charities of their choice.”
