Lush Cosmetics has launched its ‘Liberation’ bathbomb to raise funds for pro-trans organisations, including TransActual, My Genderation and TENI.
On its website, Lush says: “Celebrate trans lives and stand up for trans rights with this luxurious liberating bath bomb. Layered in the pink, blue and white of the trans flag, and scented with our beloved American Cream fragrance, you’ll soak amongst the sweetness of creamy vanilla absolute and the background warm, slight woody note of benzoin resin.
“75% of sales price (minus tax) will be donated to organisations that are advocating for trans rights, supporting the trans community, and uplifting trans voices.”
TransActual, which shares facts about trans rights, UK law, NHS healthcare and transphobia, recently collaborated with Lush on an informative, new 24-page booklet, which claims trans communities have been made ‘the target of a calculated media assault’ in a bid to divert attention from ‘global crises’.
The booklet, which outlines terms used by the community and is produced by Lush ‘in solidarity and allyship with trans people everywhere’, also claims the media landscape was ‘encouraging violence’ and diverting attention ‘from those nicely off’ while others struggled, adding that lives had been ‘devastated’ by a ‘tidal wave of hate’.
It comes after Supreme Court’s anti-trans ruling that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act refer to a ‘biological woman and biological sex’.
Responding to a Daily Mail report, saying the booklet was produced for children’s party bags, a Lush spokesperson said: “The booklet was designed to be displayed in stores next to signage about the campaign and at till points, for people to take if they wished to.
‘Campaign materials aren’t made for party bags, which are made to be fun, and our staff have guidance that makes this clear.”
