Enter Gallery, Brighton’s oldest independent art gallery, is to close its doors after 30 years.
Lawrence Alkin, Founder of Enter Gallery, said: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Enter Gallery, Brighton’s oldest independent art gallery, will be permanently closing. This has been the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but the challenges of recent years have left us with no other choice.
Enter Gallery has gone through multiple evolutions, from Ink-d gallery in Brighton, artrepublic Soho and Lawrence Alkin Gallery in London.
Lawrence added: “For decades, Enter Gallery has been more than just a business. It has been a home for creativity, a community hub, and a champion for artists. From being the first gallery to sell Banksy prints – over 6,000, in fact! – to nurturing future talent through our Kids Club, we are incredibly proud of the legacy we’ve built. None of this would have been possible without your belief in us and your support for the power of art.
“As we close this chapter, I want to thank you for being part of our story and for helping us create something truly special. While the gallery will no longer continue, I hope the art and connections we’ve shared will leave a lasting impact.”
In 2021, Enter Gallery decided Brighton’s graffiti culture should be celebrated with a Street Art Tour and in 2023, they supported Shaun by the Sea – the Art Trail event organised by Brighton charity, Martlets.
