Daren Kay met with the Sussex Beacon’s CEO Rachel Brett in the garden at the centre on Thursday, February 6 to donate royalties from his book The Brightonians Under Siege to the charity.
Daren, who handed over more than £600 to the local HIV charity, said: “With flashbacks to Brighton’s gay scene in the 1980s at the beginning of the AIDS pandemic, the decision to donate all my royalties from The Brightonians Under Siege to the much-loved charity was an easy one to make.
“A centre made possible by the generosity and determination of the community it cares for, while needs of people living with HIV have changed dramatically over last four decades, organisations like the Beacon are still hugely important; providing education and information as well as medical care.”
The money that Daren handed over doesn’t include money collected at various book readings and fortune telling events and there is still five months of online sales to add.
