Brighton Bear Weekender raises record amount

Brighton Bear Weekender (BBWE) 2015, held over the weekend of June 19-21, was the biggest and best yet, raising £5,653 for the Rainbow Fund.

Bear’s Picnic in Queens Park

An estimated 500 people from all corners of the UK, attended a variety of events over the course of the weekend with many visitors visiting the city from Europe and further afield.

Events included the Welcome Night with cabaret by Mysterry at A Bar; the popular Come to Daddy club night at Envy, the Bear Shaft early evening disco at Legends, and additional club nights at Subline (in association with Leathermen South) and Latest Music Bar (Grrr!).

There were plenty of daytime events too, including a breakfast and Sunday roast lunch at the Camelford Arms, and the popular picnic in Queen’s Park with a superb buffet provided by Lunch Positive, the HIV lunch club charity.

The weekend drew to a close with an afternoon of cabaret at Legends starring the Drag With No Name and Mysterry, the big raffle draw with over £1,000 worth of prizes, and the Bare Bears underwear party at Subline.

All events during the weekend were well organised and general feedback this year has been overwhelmingly positive from locals and visitors alike.

The grand total raised this year is £5,653, a record amount for Brighton Bear Weekender, which as a non-profit organisation donates all of its profits to the Rainbow Fund.

The Rainbow Fund, through their independent grants committee, make grants to LGBT/HIV organisations delivering effective front line services to LGBT people in Brighton and Hove.

Chris Gull

Chris Gull, Chair of the Rainbow Fund, said: “That is a spectucular amount of money BBWE have raised, well done to everyone involved for their hard work. I will make sure that the community gets top value for money from the grants and projects we support in the September grants round.”
