With President Donald Trump reversing protections for LGBTQ+ people across the United States, award-winning pop star and actor Lady Gaga has stepped up to defend marginalised communities in an interview with Elle, saying the “election was devastating” for LGBTQ+ people’s existence, but she also made it clear that “we’re not going down without a fight.” Gaga further added, “we’ll stick together.”
While Lady Gaga has faced public scepticism about her sexual orientation, the Born This Way singer has long been a loud and proud advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and has even been called a modern queer icon. In interviews over the years, she has shared that she is bisexual. In 2009, during one of her first big cover interviews, Gaga said she wanted to “inject gay culture into the mainstream.”
Lady Gaga talks to ELLE about the election result:
“This election was devastating for their existence, so community is going to be the number one thing. I’m one of many people who support the LGBTQ and other marginalized communities and we’re not going down without a fight.… pic.twitter.com/XHdldYn2c4
