Scene from the Sofa – Five minutes with… Dave Lynn

Graham Robson April 16, 2020

One of Britain’s most enduring drag queens, Dave Lynn is fit, sixty-something and still fabulous. With over 40 years treading the boards, Dave has become, dare we say, the Godmother of drag in the UK. Graham Robson caught up with them to see what how they’ve been spending their time while in lockdown and their plans for the future.

Hey Dave, how is it going?

Hi, I’m doing ok, it’s a strange feeling… I have been a Drag Queen since I was 18, I’m now 61 and I always said I’d take a month off one day. Now I have no choice.

Have you been doing much online or have you seen any good stuff?

No, I haven’t done anything online but I do plan to. I’ve seen some of my friends doing their shows online and it’s made me feel proud and good .

Any tips to beat feeling isolated?

To anyone who’s finding it hard day after day, have a drink lol! I’ve set myself a routine – get up early, chill, have a cup of tea or coffee, exercise for an hour, do some bits around the house, have an hour outside with the dog, then have a drink.

What are your plans for when this is over?

When this is over, I will celebrate and then help put us back together, we will be stronger and appreciate more in our life like having other people around every day. Let’s really enjoy life!

What do you miss the most?

I miss the venues, my friends and fellow artistes, just everything.

Any words of wisdom?

I don’t know what is gonna happen, but I want us all to stay safe and be patient. I am lucky to have my soulmate Tamzin. All my love and see you all very soon x x
