POP MUSIC: This is… #DaleyPop!

Graham Robson February 27, 2022

Music has been embedded in my life ever since I was in the womb, my Mum and Dad basically raised me on music, especially POP music! I grew up listening to Madonna, Mariah Carey, Kylie Minogue, Spice Girls, Britney Spears….even AQUA! I’m excited to share my favourite and most listened to songs from my Spotify every month and my favourite album of the month with you all from Scene HQ!

Follow me on Instagram and Twitter.

Anitta – Boys Don’t Cry I only know Brazilian singer and songwriter Anitta thanks to Madonna as she was featured on M’s ‘Madame X’ album and since then I’ve been following her music waiting for an English bop and now she’s given us one! Anitta has sang in English before but this song is just POP perfection tbh and the music video is fun and super ’80s horror movie style…

Anitta said about the video: “I like to show a different Anitta, and show that it is possible, yes, to be several people many different” oooooh!

Röyksopp and Alison Goldfrapp – Impossible Norwegian duo Röyskopp have teamed up with the fabulous Alison Goldfrapp for their 3rd single from upcoming album Profound Mysteries although they’ve said it’s not an album?! Svein Berge and Torbjørn Brundtland said “As human beings, what we don’t know vastly overshadows what we do know,” and “As teenagers, we would discuss our own fascination and preoccupation with the infinite and the impossible – the most profound mysteries of life.” (29th April 2022 the album but not album will be out btw).

‘Frapp fans like myself have been waiting for new music since Silver Eye was released in 2017 so this’ll tide us over! Alison said “I’ve been a fan of their (Röyksopp) music for years and it was a fascinating joy creating ‘Impossible’ I truly hope everyone enjoys the track as there’s more to come.” We do and YAY!

Tinashe – Naturally Independent artist Tinashe, who featured on Britney Spears’ ‘Slumber Party’ has released ‘Naturally’, a new track from her upcoming deluxe ‘333’ album out on March 3 2022 and it’s a very smooth and addictive song, the choreo in the official video is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G too and really matches the sound of the track. The video is kinda gory too just FYI.

Tinashe is so slept on IMPO but in a way I’m glad because I wouldn’t want her getting overplayed but then again she deserves to be huge! Check her out, ‘333’ is one of the best albums of 2021 so 4 new ‘333’ tracks is very exciting.

Jodie Harsh – Good Time Jodie Harsh is here to make us dance! Her words not mine but yay thanks Jodie! Jodie said “we’re truly back on the dance floor for Good Time!’ And that ‘It’s about getting lost on the dance floor, a place where everything feels so much better. Musically I wanted to produce something super crazy, a bit disco-housey but distinctly UK sounding. Sonically I wanted it to sit somewhere between my heroes Armand Van Helden and Basement Jaxx” well you definitely did that Jodie so….thanks again from all of us at Scene HQ.

Check out the website for tour dates, there’s always new dates being added!

Orville Peck – C’mon Baby, Cry ’I can tell you’re a sad boy just like me’ is a lyric on this track that I really felt nawww. Country crooner Orville Peck has a new album out on the 4th April and said “I was inspired by country rock, ’60s & ’70s psychedelic, California and bluegrass with everything being anchored in country. Bronco is all about being unrestrained and the culmination of a year of touring, writing in isolation and going through and ultimately emerging from a challenging personal time.”

Back to ‘C’mon Baby, Cry’ though, I love how refreshing it is for a song where a man encourages another man to cry and to emmbrace his emotions and sadness….

Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby – Do We Have a Problem?/Bussin Nicki Minaj season is here! Nicki’s fed us not one but TWO new singles after her 3 year hiatus and it’s worth the wait. I loveee the trap beat and synth melody on ‘Do We Have A Problem?’ and of course the flawless flow of both Nicki and Lil Baby…

Nicki’s verses remind me of past bops like ‘Chun-Li’ (one of my faves)! And ’Bussin’ reminds me of ‘FeFe’, I need to twerk to both of these new tracks in a club asap and while I’m here I might as well manifest into the universe that I need Nicki to follow me on Twitter! (Pretty please Nicki if you’re reading this, I’m a life long Barb and still think about when I saw you at the O2 Arena on the ‘Pink Friday Reloaded Tour’ daily)! Love Dale xoxo

Doja Cat – Celebrity Skin Doja Cat has covered Courtney Love whatttt, well Hole, Courtney Love’s band! Doja has covered the song for a part of her Super Bowl advert with Taco Bell (random) and she tweeted…

https://twitter.com/DojaCat/status/1491834719146754048?s=20&t=mHUpQy-IHIYlBHtvZ7YdrQ

The cover has Courtney Love’s seal of approval phew! Courtney tweeted “Look what me & @DojaCat did with my song,” and “Add rock goddess to your resume.

Florence + The Machine – King Florence’s new era has officially started! Florence Welch said “As an artist, I never actually thought about my gender that much. I just got on with it,” and that she “was as good as the men and I just went out there and matched them every time.” “But now, thinking about being a woman in my 30s and the future… I suddenly feel this tearing of my identity and my desires. That to be a performer, but also to want a family, might not be as simple for me as it is for my male counterparts.

“I had modelled myself almost exclusively on male performers, and for the first time I felt a wall come down between me and my idols as I have to make decisions they did not.” Florence really is on another level, out of this world, we don’t deserve her, we don’t deserve her ART. The track, the lyrics and the video are basically a masterpiece.

ALBUM OF THE MONTH- Mary J. Blige – Good Morning Gorgeous

One of the most best voices in R&B, New York native Mary J.Blige’s 14th studio album is out now and the title track is a self-love anthem that reminds each and every single one of us to love ourselves inside and out. Mary said ‘It’s a positive affirmation I had to speak over myself when I was in a really dark situation.’ And that she ‘had to learn how to love myself out of a negative place. I learned that positive words – just speak positive words over yourself – you manifest positive things in your life.’ PREACH Mary!

Btw Mary performed the classic Family Affair and another fan favourite No More Drama at the Super Bowl, just in case you didn’t know. Check it out on YouTube if you haven’t seen it… Mary snapped! Right, back to the album! It feels like a celebration of Mary’s career and stand out tracks are obviously Good Morning Gorgeous, Here With Me, Enough and On Top.
