LGBTQ+ artists to perform at dedicated LGBTQ+ event at black music festival, Festival2Funky

Graham Robson May 22, 2023

Festival2Funky, a three-day celebration of black music and arts, will return to Leicester for its 10-year anniversary this weekend, from the May 26-28, with a dedicated event to celebrate LGBTQ+ voices.

Festival2Funky features artists from across the globe, including Grammy Award-nominated artist and US billboard charts favourite, AZ; drum & bass pioneer, MC Shabba D; Jamaican dance hall star, Lisa Mercedez; and UK Garage favourites, Sweet Female Attitude.

As part of the festival, a dedicated event to celebrate LGBTQ+ voices will be held called Remember My Song, in homage to a song by singer / songwriter Labi Siffre who was an early LGBTQ+ advocate and out gay man who never shied away from addressing racism and homophobia in his work.

The aim is for the event to be a celebration of the voices of our LGBTQ+ community with performances from artists including trans performer Sophielou and Carter the Bandit.
