Following rave reviews, ‘The Strange Case of Dr Dillon’ returns to the stage in Brighton next week for one night only

Following rave reviews, The Strange Case of Dr Dillon returns to the stage in Brighton next week for one night only.

Set between the 1920s and the 1960s, the play follows Dr Michael Dillon’s journey as the first trans man to undergo medical transition.

In a society far less understanding of transitioning, Dillon’s story reminds us of the courage to be who we are. The performance coincides with LGBTQ+ History Month, making it a particularly poignant time to revisit Dr Dillon’s remarkable life.

As trans rights continue to be debated particularly in America, with news this week of Trump’s clampdown on trans athletes, and his declaration that there are only males and females, the play offers a chance to reflect on how far we have come and how far there is still to go.

Kay Eluvian plays multiple characters of different genders and  is matched by Cloud Quinn’s gripping portrayal of Dillon. Cloud told me: “It’s an honour to bring Michael’s journey to the stage again. As a trans man I feel privileged to be able to share his story.”

Kay said: “Every performance feels like a new journey: a chance to give voice to a story that deserves to be heard. We have previously performed this in London and we are delighted to bring it back home to Brighton where it began.”

The Strange Case of Dr Dillon is at The Actors Theatre, Brighton on 15 February.
