‘Beat the Bleak Midwinter’: Music to lift the soul from Brighton choirs, Resound and Rebelles

Graham Robson November 8, 2022

Two of the Brighton’s most respected choirs – Resound and Rebelles – will join forces on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10 for a concert designed to lift the soul of those battling through a tough winter.

Staged in the stunning setting of St Paul’s Church, Beat The Bleak Midwinter is an eclectic programme of music – from Kate Bush to Irving Berlin.

The concert also continues both choirs’ commitment to champion music by living LGBTQ+ composers including Mari Esabel Valverde and Jennifer Higdon.

Ahead of the performances, musical director Sam Barton said: “With the cost of living crisis making life difficult for so many of us, we wanted to create a night of sheer escapism where people can enjoy a couple of hours of uplifting Christmas music with a glass of wine in a beautiful location.”

Beat The Bleak Midwinter with Resound and Rebelles at St Paul’s Church, Brighton BN1 2RE on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10.
