Northern Pride and friends to mark Transgender Day of Remembrance

Northern Pride, which also organises the annual Pride festival in Newcastle, has teamed up with a number of LGBTQ+ organisations in the region to host a service for Transgender Day of Remembrance on Wednesday, November 20.

Held at Baltic Square from 6.30ā€“8pm, the community-led event aims to raise awareness and pay respect to people who have lost their lives around the world.

The evening will feature a number of readings, speeches and performances from invited guests and members of the LGBTQ+ community and also be streamed live on Pride Radio 89.2FM.

Other organisations working alongside Northern Pride, include: Be: Trans Support and Community, ReportOUT, Northern Heart, Ability Events, Northern Proud Voices, Rainbow Foundation, LGBT+ Northern Social Group and Trinity Youth.

Ste Dunn, Chair of Northern Pride, said: ā€œTransgender Day of Remembrance is a time when we can remember those we have lost and show our support for people all around the world who are facing discrimination for their gender identities.

ā€œPart of the service will include reading the names of those who have lost their lives over the last 12 months and, as many transgender people find themselves without the support of their families, itā€™s really important that we come together to commemorate them.

ā€œIt is vital now more than ever that we stand in solidarity with the transgender community and the vigil is open to anyone who would like to attend.ā€

Katie Marshall, Chair of Be: Trans Support and Community, added: ā€œā€œTransgender people are disproportionately more likely to experience hate crimes and violence, just for trying to live their lives.

ā€œWe hope the service will increase visibility surrounding the issues facing the community and also celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us.ā€

Subline’s 9th Birthday: Double-Ender Weekend

Subline, Brighton’s subterranean cruise bar, celebrates its 9th Birthday on Saturday, November 16 and Sunday, November 17.

The Double-Ender Weekend kicks off on Saturday from 10pm with one of Subline’s traditional birthday buffets and bountiful bottles of bubbly, entry Ā£5.

Steven Lee, Subline’s owner, says: “I’ll be splashing the fizz around and letting you lot attack the food mountain from midnight, if Ian leaves any!”

On Sunday, head deep down for some late night cabaret (at Subline?! We Know!) with Mrs Moore entertaining the troops (on stage for once, not out back) from 10pm, entry Ā£3.

Saturday and Sunday are all-male nights with no dress code – but as always, fetish clobber is positively encouraged.

Steven Lee, added: “I might just be repeating myself here, but WHAT THE ACTUAL FLIP?! NINE YEARS?! When I first opened the doors of Subline (wide-eyed, innocent and virginal) back in 2010, I never imagined I’d be here (gnarled, bitter and corrupt) almost a decade later! And on top of that – masochistic to the end – I now own the bloody place!

“Sarcasm aside; thanks to EVERYONE who has been on this journey with me. I’m glad (maybe even proud) to be properly in the driving seat now, and looking forward to many more years of fun, frolics, fundraising, fraternity, friendship, ‘family’ and other F words… Let’s make it a weekend to remember (hazily!).”
