PREVIEW: BABYTEETH come out of their Cocoon with tour alongside Adam Ant, and new track.

Ahead of an upcoming show alongside eighties legend Adam Ant, the alternate five piece BABYTEETH release their third dark and twisting single.

AHEAD of their spot supporting eighties legend Adam Ant, on December 19, London’s own five piece BABYTEETH are set to drop their third single on December 14.

Dubbed Cacoon, the self released track and its accompanying video are described as a commentary on death and rebirth – with the two members of the group accidentally setting themselves on fire during filming.

About the track, the band said: “Cocoon is about how we’re sometimes addicted to making bad choices because they’re the more exciting. It’s also about how powerful it can be to decide to feel gratitude for all the experiences, as they’ve turned you into a stronger version of yourself. It’s about personal rebirth, and remaking.

Dark and twisting, the track follows previous single Shame, which saw success with airplay on Radio 1, and Kerrang.

Along with Adam Ant, the band have previously supported electronic indie group The Naked and Famous, and indie two-piece The Pearl Harts.

Give a Gift to Martlets this Christmas

What will you be putting under the tree this Christmas?

IF you could give just one extra gift this year, then give something that will make a real difference to another local family.

A £20 Christmas donation to Martlets could pay for one hour of rehabilitation care, improving the quality of life for someone from the Brighton & Hove area who is living with a terminal illness.

Denise who has been cared for by Martlets since 2004, receives treatment in the comfort of her own home.

Denise say: “Christmas is a very difficult time for anyone facing an uncertain future. You think to yourself, ‘Will this be the last one, will I ever see those Christmas decorations again?”

“In the worst, darkest period, I was in pain and finding it hard to cope with my feelings of hopelessness.  I couldn’t face Christmas at all. How could I look forward, when I felt I had nothing to look forward to?  How could I accept cards, wishing me a Happy New Year? I didn’t even want to put the Christmas tree up and every card went straight in the bin.

“My life as it is today, alongside really good clinical treatment, is thanks to the emotional support and care I received from Martlets.  They helped me to rebuild my life, when I felt that I had no future to look forward to. It wasn’t just me they helped, but they also supported the rest of the family when things were really tough for us.  It was like a huge warm hug, wrapping itself around me and lifting me up when things looked very bleak.

“Everyone knows of someone who has had their lives touched by cancer or a life-threatening illness.  £20 is such a small gift to give, but it will help people like me to live with and cope with illness.  It’s not much to allow someone the chance to feel safe and to finally start to look forward again.”

Imelda Glackin

Imelda Glackin, CEO of Martlets said: “As a charity we rely on the generosity of the people of Brighton & Hove to be able to provide hospice care to local families.  It’s your support that provides the rehabilitation that is needed to help someone to feel more comfortable or the counselling that enables people like Denise to see the way forward.

“It’s all about helping people to live their lives, allowing them to achieve more and make happy memories with their families.

“At Christmas that’s especially important.  So please do remember to put a life-changing gift under your tree for Martlets this year.

“Thank you and Merry Christmas from all the team here at Martlets!”

Research project on gay migration and HIV-status is recruiting participants

University of Leicester seek HIV-positive gay/bi/queer/MSM men for new research study.

ACADEMICS at the University of Leicester are researching how HIV shapes the migration choices of gay men throughout Europe.

The project is funded by the European Commission, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, and led by Dr Cesare Di Feliciantonio of the University of Leicester’s School of Geography, Geology and the Environment.

Dr Di Feliciantonio said: “We are currently recruiting participants to hear about their personal experiences. Participation is open to any self-identifying gay/bi/queer/MSM men aged over 18 living in England. Participation is fully anonymous.”

The survey will gain an insight into the mobility rate of HIV-positive gay/bi/queer/MSM men.

Dr Di Feliciantonio continued: “Understanding these processes might lead to a better provision of services and policies addressed to gay/bi/queer/MSM men.”

Several studies have found a correlation between becoming HIV-positive and gay men’s decision to migrate. To date, most of these studies have been based in the USA and Canada. This research will provide an important contribution to understanding the impact of HIV on where people choose to migrate within Europe.

Project advisor, Professor Gavin Brown, Professor of Political Geography and Sexualities at the University of Leicester, said: “This important research study will offer new insights into how and why some gay and bisexual men choose to relocate to live in a new place after their diagnosis.”

Any self-identifying gay/bisexual/queer/MSM man who lives in England and is aged over 18 can contribute to the project by completing the anonymous online survey.

“I am proud to support an initiative that promotes cross-functional and cross-industry collaboration for better patient outcomes for the ageing population, recognising the diverse needs within this group”.

Brighton & Hove Pride commemorates 50 years of The Pride Movement in 2019

Brighton & Hove Pride 2019 will see a community of LGBTQ+ people, their friends and families come together for pride, acceptance and freedom of self-expression.

IN 2019, Brighton & Hove Pride will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising that ignited the modern Pride Movements across the world.

In the early hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, a series of small, spontaneous demonstrations by members of a persecuted community sparked a flame that would grow into the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for global LGBTQ+ rights and equality.

The Brighton & Hove Pride Festival which will take pace from August 2-4, will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising that ignited the Pride Movement by taking a look back over five decades of pride, passion, diversity and activism, to celebrate how far we have come whilst recognising there’s still more work to be done.

LGBTQ+ communities all over the world still face very real discrimination, prejudice and violence with more than seventy countries across the world legislating against homosexuality and eight imposing the death penalty simply for being LGBTQ+.

Paul Kemp
Paul Kemp

Paul Kemp, Director of Brighton & Hove Pride, said: “The struggle for social change has been long, and it’s definitely not over yet. Brighton & Hove Pride will continue to campaign and stand in solidarity with those who continue to be prosecuted, criminalised and excluded because of their sexual orientation

Brighton and Hove Pride is the UK’s biggest Pride Festival operated by Brighton Pride CIC, a not for profit community interest company. All tickets revenue raised goes directly to the operational and running costs of producing the Pride Festival, LGBTQ+ Community Parade, Pride Village Party and community fundraising.

In the last six years, Brighton and Hove Pride has raised over £705,000 for the Rainbow Fund, Pride Cultural Development Fund and Pride Social Impact Fund. The Rainbow Fund is a charity and has a remit to receive donations and use them to give grants to LGBTQ+ and HIV groups and organisations in Brighton and Hove.
