MITCHIE is currently the Chair of Friends of Farm Green Park, which recently raised over £60,000 for new playground equipment. One of her aims for the future is to see other parks in the ward also get the refurbishment they deserve too.

Mitchie said: “I am delighted to have been selected by The Green Party to stand in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean. I am passionate about working with the community here and love the voluntary work I do in the local neighbourhoods.”

She was one of the core organisers for this year’s BevFest and has helped fund-raise and organise community family events to be held in both Bevendean and Moulsecoomb during this year’s summer holidays.

She continued: “Whilst some know me locally for my fight to try and save The Willows GP surgery from closing down a few years ago, I also work hard on making positive things happen in this beautiful but sometimes forgotten area of our city”.

Greens came fourth in the three-member ward in 2015 behind council leader Daniel Yates.

Brighton Pride supports Trans Pride Brighton

Following the disruption of the Pride in London Parade by a tiny number of individuals, Brighton & Hove Pride issue statement totally condemning the action.

THE statement reads: “Brighton & Hove is recognised as a diverse and inclusive city and the home of the original TransPride. The Pride movement was begun by trans people and trans people will always be welcome at Brighton Pride. We are proud of our Trans volunteers, groups and communities and we will not tolerate messages of hate against any participants of LGBT+ communities.

“This year’s Brighton & Hove LGBT+ Community Parade has had the largest number of entries ever and every community group who has applied has been allocated a slot.

“The lead section of the Brighton & Hove LGBT+ Community Parade is always made up of the Rainbow Fund, the grant awarding body for funds for LGBT+ community groups, the LGBT Safety Forum who provide a safe space in the parade for vulnerable people from our communities, and our LGBT+ global awareness campaign messages.

“We will take robust action against any hijacking of the Brighton LGBT+ Pride Community Parade and the safety of all our participants is paramount.”

Less than 30% of the entries on the Brighton Pride community parade this year are business entries. To maintain the integrity of the Brighton Pride community parade, every business on the parade has had to agree to new parade standards to ensure that floats and entries from business partners or brands support and celebrate Diversity and Inclusion or the achievements, culture and aspirations of those belonging to their LGBT+ staff networks.

The statement concludes: “Brighton & Hove is a welcoming city that does not tolerate hate. We stand in solidarity with out Trans community and Saturday, August 4 will be a day of celebration and love for all our LGBT+ communities.”
