Artist, designer, and musician Johny Dar has created a new language.

FASHION designer Johny Dar has created an alien language.

The newly invented dialect will be featured on his electronic dance single Alien Animal, which will be made available to hear on June 10.

Dubbed Alien-rap, Dar’s language was constructed because the artist felt he didn’t fit in with society. He explained: “I’ve been speaking it since I was a kid and no one on earth understood it – my parents were wondering what was wrong with me!” He said: “I’ve always been an alien in this world, somehow. For a minute I tried to fit in but failed, so I had to re-create my own world from scratch, and this language was a part of that.”

The language and new single come as part of the musician’s soon approaching debut album, Dardelica, which will be released later in 2018.

Language isn’t the first concept Dar has altered. The electronic dance artist has also previously created his own system of time, labelled Dar-time, which has expanded the usual 24 hour day to one of 32 hours.

Previously, the artist has worked alongside the likes of singers Sir Elton John, Bryan Adams, Melanie C, Sam Smith, Florence Welch (of Florence and the machine), Harry Styles (formerly of One Direction), and Jessie J. He has also collaborated with fellow designer Vivienne Westwood, and actress Emma Watson.

Love wins in Bermuda!

Bermuda Supreme Court overturns same-sex marriage ban.

TODAY, the Supreme Court of Bermuda agreed to overturn the nation’s same-sex marriage ban, ruling in favour of OUTBermuda and its co-litigants.

The court’s decision comes in response to legal challenges to newly enacted domestic partnership legislation that repealed marriage equality in Bermuda.

Bermuda was the first nation to repeal marriage equality legislation and the decision to overturn the ban on same-sex marriage is a historic one.

Zakiya Johnson Lord and Adrian Hartnett-Beasley of OUTBermuda said: “Love wins again! Our hearts and hopes are full, thanks to this historic decision by our Supreme Court and its recognition that all Bermuda families matter. Equality under the law is our birthright, and we begin by making every marriage equal.”

Two of the litigants, Roderick Ferguson and Maryellen Jackson issued a joint statement, “We all came to the court with one purpose. That was to overturn the unfair provisions of the Domestic Partnership Act that tried to take away the rights of same-sex couples to marry. Revoking same-sex marriage is not merely unjust, but regressive and unconstitutional; the Court has now agreed that our belief in same-sex marriage as an institution is deserving of legal protection and that belief was treated by the Act in a discriminatory way under Bermuda’s Constitution.  We continue to support domestic partnership rights for all Bermudians to choose, but not at the expense of denying marriage to some.”

LGBT+ human rights activist, Peter Tatchell added: “Bermuda’s Supreme Court was right to rule that the repeal of same-sex marriage by the country’s parliament was unconstitutional.

“Under Bermuda’s constitution and its international treaty obligations the state is duty-bound to guarantee equal treatment and non-discrimination to all its citizens.

“This ruling will encourage and empower legal challenges to criminalisation and marriage inequality across the Caribbean, many of which are bound to succeed. It is indicative of the unstoppable global trend towards LGBT+ equal human rights.”

OUTBermuda is a registered charity which promotes and supports the wellbeing, health, dignity, security, safety and protection of the LGBT+ communities in Bermuda by providing educational resources on issues of diversity, inclusiveness, awareness and acceptance regarding LGBT+ people. They seek generally to advance human rights, and the promotion of equality and diversity relating to the LGBT+ communities in Bermuda.

The Applicants thanked their attorneys Rod S. Attride-Stirling (ASW Law Limited) and Mark Pettingill (Chancery Legal), for their outstanding and expert work in Court and expressed special gratitude to Carnival Corporation, owners of Cunard for its leadership supporting their cause and for the affidavits in support of the application provided by Carnival Corporation executive Roger Frizzell.

REVIEW: Les Musicals – live concert tour @Theatre Royal

Rhydian Roberts and Jonathan Ansell are a powerful duo in the mould of Michael Ball and Alfie Boe, with the same magic formula of stunning singing ranges, humour and chemistry.

THIS songs from the shows compilation which came to Brighton as part of a national tour of one-nighters, is middle of the road stuff which musical theatre goers will all know, though there’s a notable absence of anything by Sondheim, Porter or the Gershwins.

What there is, is a heavy reliance on the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber, but Rhydian particularly ascends the heights of some Broadway greats like Showboat and South Pacific.

His opera-trained deep Welsh  baritone voice has a rich undercurrent which contrasts strongly with Jonathan’s pop/rock boy band falsetto. In the acting stakes Rhydian is way ahead, getting inside the characters of the parts but Jonathan has the boyish charm to carry off light material like Joseph’s Any dream will do as well as heavier dramatic material from Miss Saigon and Jesus Christ Superstar.

In the second part of the concert they amuse and amaze us by singing one line from each of 50 musical theatre songs in just three minutes and the happy clappy sing-along audience loved it.

Spookily they both came second in separate series of X Factor, Jonathan being in the 2004 series as part of G4 and Rhydian taking him as his inspiration to enter the contest three-years later in 2007.

Having split as frontman from the pop/opera crossover group G4, Jonathan now heads the re-formed group, and Rhydian has an equally multi-million selling set of records he can boast.

But their joining together is a truly inspired one and they clearly love performing together.

Les Musicals is on tour throughout June and October and will probably be back in Brighton next year.
