Slip into BRIEFS in Brighton this May during the Brighton Fringe Festival at Republic on the beach next to Brighton Wheel.

♦ COMEDIC CAMPERY MEETS CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS

♦ SENSATIONAL SPECTACLE MEETS SHAMELESS SPLENDOUR

BRIEFS

This Spring, the heart-stopping blend of cabaret burlesque, Australian machismo and punkish swagger comes to Brighton following a barnstorming year of sell out runs and ecstatic reviews across the world.

The six Aussies and one New Yorker are powered by a fierce energy as they mix up a potent blend of drag, glamour and athleticism, infused with dancing, tumbling, juggling, acro-balancing, trapeze, hula hooping, lip syncing, sequins, feathers and frocks.

Incorporating whole portions of new material into some of the Briefs’ favourite fare and introducing a brand new member of the gang, the show combines an eye-popping blend of dog show satire, intimate yo-yo tricks, wind machines, Busby-Berkeley spectacle, pure burlesque and an array of serious circus skills.

Audience favourite Shivannah (Fez Fa’anana) has several new and surprising tricks up her voluminous sleeves and leads the chaotic troop through the show with brazen beauty.

The Las Vegas award-winning ‘Captain Kidd’ takes a turn as the fabulous bird in his own golden bird bath and stuns the audience with alluring athleticism.

The new disorderly Briefs line up welcomes fresh meat in the form of the outrageous James Welby who collides high fashion, avant-garde drag, and kooky pop with dance, circus and music; one of Australia’s leading aerialists, contortionists and circus trainers, Thomas Worrell, who literally ties himself in knots; Evil Hate Monkey, escaped from New York Zoo and dazzling with his award-winning burlesque banana ballet, and fresh-faced circus brats Lachy Shelley – from CIRCA ZOO and FLIPSIDE – and Louis Biggs – from FLYING FRUIT FLY CIRCUS –  who melt hearts and have the audience gasping for more..

Over the last year Briefs have swaggered, shimmied, swished and swung all over the World, selling out in London, Berlin, Paris, Auckland, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. Brighton marks their first stop in Europe in 2016. Later in the Summer they will take residency at Berlin’s legendary Tipi am Kanzleramt, again before returning to London Wonderground in August where they sold out a full two month run in 2015.

Lunch Positive who provide a nutritious meal every Friday for people who are HIV positive, will for the first time be cooking a selection of meats, burgers, and sausages including vegetarian options from a BBQ.

There will also be cool chilled salads and pasta dishes all served by the hard working volunteers at Lunch Positive. Prices start from £2.50 for food and another first, teas and coffees will be available to buy at the event.

Already confirmed for the Bear-B-Que are mixologists Gin and Bear It who will be making gin cocktails to order, soft drinks, Pimms and more to satisfy your thirst along with a special Bear Weekend gin cocktail where a percentage of money from each cocktail goes to the Rainbow Fund.

This might be well needed after you recover from watching the Brighton and Hove Sea Serpents, the local gay rugby team, who will be playing a demonstration game in the afternoon and be meeting people who have come along to the event.

Gary Pargeter from Lunch Positive, says: “Lunch Positive is really looking forward to Brighton Bear Weekend, and providing the Bear-B-Q at Dorset Gardens. Our volunteers are planning some excellent hot & cold food, and the proceeds will all go towards providing the HIV lunch club. Thanks very much to the organisers for asking us to get involved, and we’re looking forward to seeing & feeding everyone on the day!”

Graham Munday Chair of Brighton Bear Weekend, added: “It is one of my favourite events of the weekend. It happens away from the scene and it feels like a real community event where everybody is welcome. We are proud to be raising money for The Rainbow Fund so do please buy raffle tickets, wristbands, t-shirts and support everybody that makes this a very special event. Looking forward to seeing everybody down there.”

Brighton Bear Weekend is from June 16 to 19.
