British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters Performance Interpreting will once again be delivering BSL at the Pride Festival in Preston Park and during the Pride Community Parade on August 6, 2016.

Performance Interpreting provide BSL Interpreters to all music and entertainment venues across the UK, delivering quality access to Deaf people, enriching and enabling the deaf community to share experiences with wider society.

Performance Interpreters are highly skilled professionals with a wealth of experience and qualifications in both interpreting and performing arts. They promote equality for deaf people through the provision of access in a variety of domains including music venues, festivals, concerts, live gigs, opera, comedy, dance, poetry, parades, public events, fringe, ceremonies, celebrations, the arts and much more.

Performance Interpreting uses NRCPD (National Registers of Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind people). This means that every interpreter provided by them is in receipt of a current enhanced Disclosure and Barring System (DBS) checks, Public Indemnity Insurance and is subject to the NRCPD code of practice.

Performance Interpreting is creative, reflective and dynamic, liberating the audience to feel completely in the moment, capturing the very essence of the experience and is a true reflection of music and language expressed with soul, passion and understanding.

An artist’s gift is to entertain us with their talent, to stimulate our senses and Performance Interpreting allows deaf sign language users to come together with family and friends to share in the magic.

A BSL Interpreter will also be based full-time at the Pride Festival Access Tent in Preston Park. A programme of BSL interpreted performances will be available throughout the park on the day and a running timetable will be set to provide interpreters in the performance, spoken word and main stages throughout the event. A sign language interpreter will be available in the safe space during the parade.

Directions to the Access Tent will be present throughout the park, and that all stewards, not just access stewards, will be briefed on where the access tent is and on procedures for assisting deaf and people with hearing loss during the day.

More information on the timetable will be available from July 20, 2016.
