PREVIEW: ‘Quiche’ by Frank McHugh

John and his partner Jenny are having a dinner party, but their minds are far from being preoccupied with wine, casual chit-chat and over cooked quiche.

Quiche

JOHN intends to make an exciting but delicate proposition to their guests Jo and Jake, a proposition that Jenny herself has reluctantly accepted.

Quiche is a comedy that challenges fantasy against reality and explores the true nature of the sexual experience. Be prepared for a raunchy, energetic and somewhat tragic recount of a dinner party that John and Jenny will never forget.

LotusProduction, the brains behind Quiche, was set up by five members of the thriving amateur theatre group called the Brighton Little Theatre. It was there that Frank McHugh (Writer, Director); Ella Thompson (Jenny); Mike Williams (John); Ellie Mason (Jo) and Nik Balfe (Jake) discussed the idea of putting together their own piece.

Inspired by the likes of Channel 4’s Cucumber and Banana, it was clear to the Lotus team that sex and sexuality are big topics of discussion in the social arena. Quiche provided a fantastic opportunity to explore some of the sexual encounters either heard about or experienced by the cast and crew, which in their absolute humility have allowed to be dramatized in a local Brighton theatre. But the Lotus gang did not forget their roots. Stylistically, the play has taken a lot of the farcical energy and ruthless degradation of character’s dreams and fantasies from Mike Leigh’s infamous and forever hilarious Abigail’s Party.

With a watchful eye on the new and a respectful homage to the old, the Lotus team urge you to come down to the Marlborough Theatre from July 16th to the 18th to see their new and exciting comedy Quiche.
