Organisers have announced the entertainment programme for this year’s Arundel by Candlelight on Saturday December 7.
The day starts at 1pm with Arundel Baptist Church, the Parish & Priory Church of St Nicholas, and Arundel Cathedral joining together for a combined Churches service with carols.
Throughout the day there will be a packed programme with several choirs, bands, musicians and singers all performing across the town.
Look out for Father Christmas arriving in town at 2.45pm by horse-drawn carriage. He will then be based outside The Old Printing Works Arcade on Tarrant Street to give out presents to children from 3.00 – 4.30 and 5.00 – 6.30. The presents this year have been kindly sponsored by the Kings Arms, while the Arundel & Barnham Lions Club will be collecting on the day for two local charities, Chestnut Tree House and Sussex Air Ambulance.
A lantern making workshop for young children will be take place in the Sussex Room of the Norfolk Hotel from midday to 3.30pm. Anybody who would like to join the Lantern Procession should congregate at the top of the High Street by the Castle Gate at 4.15. The Procession will commence at 4.30. The Lantern Procession has been kindly supported this year by the Swan Hotel, Arundel.
At 4.35 the President of the Arundel & District Rotary Club will welcome everyone to the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony, taking place at the top end of the Town Square by the tree. At 4.45 the Duchess of Norfolk will officially turn the lights on. At 5.00 a parade of the larger paper lanterns will then process down Tarrant Street.
The Rotary Club will be selling mistletoe on the Town Square on behalf of local charity, Home-Start Arun. While Arundel Chamber of Commerce will be running a tombola stall with all proceeds going to support the running costs of Arundel by Candlelight.
The High Street and Tarrant Street will be closed to traffic from 8am to 8pm, however there will still be full access to the town’s car parks which are free from at least 1pm onwards. Drivers are advised to arrive into town via the A27 on the eastern (Worthing/Brighton) side of Arundel to gain access to car parks. Though if possible why not arrive by bike or train to avoid congestion?
