Mustafa Muhammad, the President of the Islamic Council of Jamaica, has said that he believes in the death penalty for homosexual practices.

Talking to the Jamaica Observer Mr Muhammad said:
"It is illegal and in the Sharia law the punishment is death. If you follow Christianity it is a crime in the sight of God. He destroyed a whole city because of this thing."

Mr Muhammad said he was against the murder of gays in Jamaica, but believed state killing was allowed only in Islamic countrys.

The Jamaica Observer then went on to rubbish claims that homosexuals are attacked and killed in the country with the explanation "police statistics show that most gays who are killed are victims of crimes of passion."
