Christine Johnson, a lesbian Representative in the Utah Legislature, has announced that's she's carrying a baby for two gay men.

The 41-year-old law lawmaker said she was artificially inseminated by one of the couple as both had expressed their frustration at Utah law which prohibits gays from adopting. The man who donated the sperm has the same rights as any biological father, but the man's partner has no legal relationship with the child.

Johnson said that although the child will know that she is its mother, her role will be more like that of an aunt. She has also made it clear that she didn't charge for the surrogacy - hiring a surrogate in the state can cost up to $100,000.
