More than 100 people protested in Taipei, Taiwan against an instruction issued by the Ministry of Education banning gay student activities in schools.

Gay rights supporters said that the government's behaviour went against the Gender Equality Act. More than 110 organisations, and 1,500 individuals, have signed a petition against the government's ban.

The Ministry of Education's secretary general apologised for the proposed ban and said that the ministry will respect the equality of those with different sexual orientations.
