The Croydon Trans Group, is this week celebrating International Trans Day of Remembrance.

The Day has been celebrated around the 20th of November worldwide since 1999, and commemorates the transgendered people who have died as a result of hate crime in the previous 12 months.

A special Trans Day of Remembrance display is on view on the first floor of Croydon Central Library. It features a floral tribute of white lilies, with three sheets listing the names and brief details of the victims being remembered this year, and a main panel in the pink, blue and white of the Trans Flag.

On Thursday, November 17, spring bulbs will be planted at Croydon Unitarian Church, as a living memorial to brighten up the flyover.

On Saturday, November 19 there will be a short ceremony in the Central Library, followed by a private film showing, buffet and social, at a local pub.

A spokesman for Croydon Trans Group, said:
“This is a sad event for us. We name the people we know have been murdered and remember that in many countries the murders of trans people are seldom reported or recorded. We won’t be wronged, we won’t be insulted, we won’t be laid a hand on. We don’t do these things to other people, and we expect the same from others.”
