Record number of runners raise record amount of money for Sussex Beacon

Blue skies and brilliant sunshine welcomed a record number of runners to this years Brighton Half Marathon on Sunday, February 19 with a record amount of money forecast to be raised for the Sussex Beacon.
The Brighton Half Marathon had been growing steadily over the last couple of years and the 2012 race sold out in record time with all 10,500 places snapped up by November 18, 2011.

The Mayor of Brighton and Hove, Councillor Anne Meadows who has chosen the Sussex Beacon as one of her nominated charities this year got the runners off on time.
In the men's race:
Matthew Dumigan from Swansea Harriers came first in 01:10:22
Ian Leitch came second in 01:10:37
Josh Guilmant was third in 01:11:32.
In the women's race:
Local runner Fiona Powell came first in 1:21:40
Julie Briggs from Arena 80 AC came second in 01:22:51
Sarah Kingston from Fittleworth Flyers was third in 01:25:53.

The Youth Races saw a record number of 353 young runners cover one mile on Madeira Drive, all wearing the official Youth Race t-shirts with the winning t-shirt competition design by Samuel Blackwell on the back of the Brooks Sports technical t-shirts.
The Corporate Charity Challenge took place for the first time in 2012 and received a great response, the results and details of the team who has raised the most money for charity will be announced shortly.
Kat Williams, CEO of The Sussex Beacon commented:
"What an amazing day with a great atmosphere and brilliant sunshine shining down on all our runners. This is a record year for the number of runners taking part and we are very proud of everyone who was involved with the race."
