The Rainbow Chorus, Brighton & Hove’s only LGBT choir, is seeking a new Musical Director, to start in January 2012.
After eight years at the helm, composer and conductor Dr Matthew Pollard has left to explore new ventures, and the only LGBT choir in the South East outside of London is now looking for an enthusiastic and committed music professional to lead this long-established group, which comprises some 50 members.
The choir is looking for a Musical Director to challenge and motivate choir members through an imaginative repertoire; develop vocal and performance skills and help build and implement a long-term vision for the choir.
The new MD must also be comfortable working with a lively group of LGBT people. The role is part-time but vital to the continuing development of the Chorus’s increasingly diverse musical programme and high profile.
The non-auditioning choir has a range of musical abilities but one aim: to sing well. It usually undertakes two major ticketed concerts a year, plus a variety of smaller events for a range of organisations, often within the LGBT community. From January, it will be working towards a major Brighton Fringe Festival concert in May 2012.
The Rainbow Chorus has sung across the full range of music, including major choral works by Handel, Elgar and Poulenc. It rehearses on Monday evenings at St George’s Church, St George’s Church, Brighton.
A job description, explanation of role and interview dates is available on the Chorus’s website:
