As part of their work to connect with more people in the community, members of the Kemp Town Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) are going virtual for a new type of drop-in session.
With temperatures dropping across Sussex, the LGBT team came up with the idea of trying an online ‘drop-in’ so that people can ask questions, raise issues and join in discussions from the comfort of their own homes.
These won’t replace the local ‘in person’ drop-in sessions but will provide another way of getting involved for those who live further away, find it difficult to get out or just prefer to chat online.
PC Rachel Piggott and PC Rich Bridger will be available to answer your questions and listen to your suggestions on all lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans issues around safety, the law and policing as well as responding to other neighbourhood concerns.
LGBT Caseworker, Clare Briscoe, will be online too in case you’d like to speak to someone who isn’t a police officer and who has specialist knowledge of hate crime, domestic abuse and other issues.
Sgt Alex Evans heads up the team and has extensive knowledge of the issues facing both the LGBT community and Kemp Town residents.
Although the team is based in Brighton, you’ll be very welcome to join in if you live or work anywhere in Sussex.
Simon Kirby, MP for Kemptown & Peacehaven, said:
“I welcome the move by Sussex Police to engage with the needs and concerns of the LGBT community.”
The first session takes place on Tuesday November 22 at 7pm and you can join in the live chat at:
www.sussex.police.uk/lgbt
On the LGBT Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Brighton-and-Hove-LGBT-Team/194767553890462
Or on Twitter by tweeting @PoliceLGBT or using the hashtag #lgbtdropin
Although the sessions are open to all, our first event takes place just after the International Trans Day of Remembrance so they will be extending a special welcome to all from the trans community who might have questions around policing or safety.
Log on, take a look and join in - they will look forward to ‘meeting’ you online.
