Whether soprano, contralto, or mezzo-soprano there is something to sing about for women of Brighton & Hove, as the brand new Actually Gay Women’s Chorus prepares for its first rehearsal.

On Monday October 10, at the Marlborough Theatre, all women will be welcome to join in and experience the joys of singing beautiful arrangements with interesting harmonies.

Previous experience of singing in a group and the ability to read music is unimportant, you need just a desire to sing, learn and have fun in a relaxed, supportive and sociable environment.

A women’s chorus has been started in response to feedback from Actually Making Music open days at St Andrew’s Church, in Hove.

Also from requests by long term supporters, at performances by Actually Gay Men’s Chorus.

Actually CIC Director Yvonne Ovey said:
“We became aware that there were women in Brighton and Hove who really wanted us to form a similar chorus for them, where they could sing and perform regularly, whilst raising money for charity.”

Rehearsals will be taken by Jason Pimblett, who is Musical Director for Actually Gay Men’s Chorus and their recording group Brighton & Hove Gay Men’s Chorus, who are currently celebrating an historic album deal with Universal Records.

Jason, has toured with Opera North and the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company for many years, has also taught singing at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in the Barbican and is very much looking forward to working with Actually Gay Women’s Chorus.

Rehearsals will be held upstairs at the Marlborough Pub, which has long associations with Brighton’s lesbian community and Marlborough Theatre managers David and Tarik are giving the project their full support.

Rehearsals take place every Monday, 8pm till 9.30pm, in the Marlborough Theatre, 4 Prince’s Street Brighton.
