Mind in Brighton and Hove is hosting a free ‘Wellbeing with You in Mind’ day for the local community on Monday, October 31.

The main aim of the event is to share interactive, fun and educational ideas on how to develop and maintain healthy mental wellbeing.

Everybody is welcome to attend this drop-in event and enjoy an abundance of activities and learning... from Tai Chi taster sessions to discovering how food is directly linked with mood and wellbeing.

Complementary therapies will be available, as will a range of interactive workshops such as Mindfulness and the famous Mindapples – what’s your 5- a- day for the mind?

A free, healthy lunch will also be on offer.

The topic of achieving and maintaining good mental wellbeing has never been hotter, with research showing, 1 in 4 people are experiencing mental health problems.

In 2008, a study by the New Economics Foundation (NEF) identified ‘5 Ways of Well-Being’ - a set of evidence-based actions to improve well-being, which individuals could build into their daily lives. This is the main theme of the event:

Connect:  Engaging with people around you from family members to neighbours, becoming part of something will enrich your support networks.

Be active: This focuses on the importance of physical exercise that not only becomes part of an exercise regime, but helps to alleviate stress.

Take notice: The idea being that becoming aware of the beauty of the world will help you become aware of how you feel and help you reflect on your experiences.

Keep learning: The human mind loves learning, striving and achieving; by focussing on a project, new or old, you will establish greater confidence and self-worth.

Give: From volunteering some of your time, joining a community group or simply just smiling and thanking someone to make them feel appreciated... exuding positivity will impact on you and those around you.

During the day, people will be welcomed through an interactive market place, sampling the delights on offer to help kick-start the route to all-round positive wellbeing.

Representatives from local health organisations will be on hand to offer tips and resources to take away on how to manage future wellbeing, and this will provide a great opportunity to ask questions and find out about local services, including Mind in Brighton and Hove, within the community.

Date:    Monday October, 31, 2011, 11am to 4pm
Venue: Mind in Brighton and Hove, 51 New England Street, Brighton
