The meeting was the latest in a series of efforts undertaken by Mr Kirby to raise the issue with the Government on behalf of concerned residents of Brighton Kemptown.

Mr Kirby, said:
“I was very pleased to have the opportunity to meet with the Minister and my fellow Brighton and Hove MP Mike Weatherley, to discuss the impact that unauthorised traveller sites and illegal encampments are having across our city.

He was very aware of the problems caused to residents by the proliferation  of unauthorised sites, particularly in Brighton and Hove, where the Green administration have proved unwilling to address this issue. We discussed the options available to Government, including ways to empower local authorities to enforce the law and move on illegal encampments whenever and wherever they occur.”

Mike Weatherley added:
“I am assured that the Government will consider this area of policy, with a view to clamping down on current abuses which have been having a considerable impact in our constituencies.”
