Labour & Co-op are backing a national charity's campaign to raise awareness of rogue landlords.

At a council meeting this Thursday (October 20), Cllr Leigh Farrow, the Labour & Co-op lead on housing will be seeking assurances that Brighton & Hove City Council will get tough with those landlords who act irresponsibly.

According to Shelter, councils across the country are aware of thousands of landlords who repeatedly give them cause for concern and complaints against landlords have risen by 22 per cent in the last two years.

Both Labour & Co-operative and Shelter believe that councils should get tough with repeat offenders whose irresponsible and often illegal behaviour can make tenants’ lives a misery.

Local Labour & Co-operative Councillor, Leigh Farrow, said:
“I am proud to be backing Shelter’s campaign and standing up for a number of tenants who are being put at risk by a rising number of irresponsible landlords.

“Most landlords are honest and decent, but a rising number are not behaving responsibly. That’s why, at a council meeting next week, I’ll be seeking assurances from Brighton & Hove City Council to protect local tenants.”
