The Brighton & Hove Green Party have announced the candidates standing for the posts of Convenor and two Deputy Convenors to serve from May 2012.
Whoever is elected will also be proposed as Leader and Deputy Leaders of Brighton & Hove City Council from May 2012.
The only candidate for the post of Convenor is Cllr Jason Kitcat, a position currently held by Cllr Bill Randall.
The candidates for Deputy Convenor (Internal Relations) are:
Cllr Geoffrey Bowden
Cllr Lizzie Deane
Cllr Christina Summers
This post is presently held by Cllr Ian Davey.
The candidates for Deputy Convenor (External Relations) are:
Cllr Ben Duncan
Cllrs Phelim Mac Cafferty and Amy Kennedy (job share)
This post is presently held by Cllr Amy Kennedy.
All candidates (including the Convenor candidate) face election by secret ballot, single transferable vote.
An electoral college system gives equal weight to the votes of Brighton & Hove Green Party and the Green Group of Councillors.
The results of the ballot will be announced on the afternoon of Sunday March 4, 2012 allowing time for successful candidates, especially if new to their newly elected posts, to shadow the present leadership team before taking up office themselves.
The new Green Leader, Deputy Leaders and Mayor will be proposed for formal election at the city’s Annual Council meeting on Thursday May 17.
The present Deputy Leaders, Cllrs Amy Kennedy and Ian Davey, will step down on that day, as will the present council Leader, Cllr Bill Randall, who has been selected by the Greens and confirmed by the other parties to serve from then for a year as Mayor.
