Kathy Gore DL, the High Sheriff of East Sussex will be running the Brighton Half Marathon to raise funds for The Sussex Beacon.
Kathy spent three years as a trustee of The Sussex Beacon and retired from the board in late 2010 to enable her to concentrate on the role of High Sheriff.
Juley Ayres, Fundraising and Communications Manager, said:
“This is a particularly special and important year for the Beacon as we commemorate our 20th anniversary.
“Kathy always gave so much to the Beacon as a Trustee and we are so happy that she is able to join us as a member of Team Beacon”.
Finding time to fit her training in amongst all the demands of being High Sheriff can’t have been easy.
Kath said:
“I haven’t done half as much training as I should have done.
"Any training I do manage to squeeze in usually takes place first thing in the morning at about 7am!"
As a past Trustee Kathy remembers when the race was much smaller, and has watched it grow to become one of the biggest Half Marathons in the UK with 10,500 entrants and places selling out in record time.
Kath continued:
“This is a fantastic achievement for a small charity.”
“The Sussex Beacon is a cause dear to my heart. I know how important the excellent care and services they provide are for men and women living with HIV. I also know how important their end of life care is, enabling people to die with dignity in comfortable and non- judgemental surroundings. I am proud to be taking part this year.”
