The Government has announced proposals to end the council tax discount on second homes.

Jason Kitkat,
Green Cabinet Member for Finance wrote to Secretary of State Eric Pickles in September asking him to consider the idea.

Cllr Kitcat commented:
“It’s costing us almost £177,000 a year to subsidise people who own second homes. This money will go a small way towards offsetting the enormous cuts the government is imposing on local authorities.

“We hope removing the discount will discourage people from owning empty second homes and bring these properties back into use for people who need them in the city.”
