Have you been the victim of a hate crime, are unhappy with the service you received or feel the crime has not been taken seriously?

Do you want to make the police and council more accountable to the community?

An inaugural meeting of a new LGBT Community Safety Group will take place at 7.30pm, on Wednesday, December 14 in Envy Nightclub, upstairs from Charles Street Bar. The venue is wheelchair accessible and has been donated free of charge for the evening.

The meeting is open to everyone, a draft consitution will be circulated for discussion, officers elected to a new committee, dates set for future quarterly public meetings and a work plan agreed.

If you want the LGBT community to have a strong voice and want to see improved accountability from the police and council then this meeting is one for your diaries.

The original LGBT community safety forum was closed down in 2004 after being infiltrated by transphobes.

Since the forum was closed the police and council have had no accountable mechanism to liaise and consult with the LGBT community in Brighton and Hove.

In December 2009 a public meeting hosted by Spectrum, the LGBT community forum agreed that a steering group would go away and bring proposals back to the community for consideration.

This meeting comes as a result of those discussions and is being led by Chris Cooke.
