Chris Cooke, Chair of 'Kemp Town In Bloom' has written to three cabinet members urging them to safeguard the £30k budget for the 'City In Bloom' group which is under threat in the current round of budget cuts.

Attendees at the recent 'City In Bloom' working group meeting were left concerned that the total budget for the group may be slashed in 2012 after council officers failed to give assurances that it would be ring-fenced.

Although the budget comes under Cllr Pete West (Environment), Chris has also written to Cllr Geoffrey Bowden (Tourism) and Cllr Ben Duncan (Communities) to state the case for the City In Bloom group.

Chris commented:
"The 'City In Bloom' is an important group in the city and it is vital that these funds are maintained.  We are not talking a great deal of money and the benefit to the city as a whole far outweighs the £30k it costs to keep the group afloat.  The impact of the group goes way beyond its environmental remit, it showcases the city and makes such a difference in our communities, hence I am including both of these areas in my appeal.
Surely between the three departments, the three Green councillors can come up with £10k each to keep the 'City In Bloom' operational in the year ahead.

"It's a flagship working group in this city and deserves the administration's full support"
