Angie Dowds, the lesbian fitness instructor and star of ITV’s The Biggest Loser has reportedly committed suicide after being seen “jumping from a cliff” at Beachy Head, East Sussex.

Reports that the Canadian-born 42-year-old committed suicide have yet to be confirmed, although she was known to have fought an addiction to drugs and alcohol since the age of 13 after her mother remarried and moved to Wales.

Ms Dowds had often spoken of her addiction, saying in an interview: “I was a victim and I had every reason in the world to be.”

Since moving in with her girlfriend and fiance, yoga teacher Corrie Preece, her mental state had seemed to improve. She said at the time: "I got her a bigger diamond — how romantic am I?

"I was only two years sober and I'd only just learned to take care of myself.”

Earlier this year, it was reported that the engagement had ended.

Regarding the incident, a Sussex Police spokesperson said:
"Just after 4.30pm on Sunday, members of the public reported that a woman was seen to jump or fall from the top of cliffs at Beachy Head.

"Coastguards found the body of a woman at the foot of the cliffs about an hour later. There are no suspicious circumstances.”

Angie had starred in The Biggest Loser since 2005 as a fitness guru to help competitors battle to lose the most weight over eight weeks in a bid to clinch a £25,000 prize.

However in February it was reported that Angie would be axed from The Biggest Loser, after encouraging dieters to cheat by eating only nuts and apples before weigh-ins. Co-star and the show’s presenter Davina McCall verified the reports of Angie's death on Twitter, saying:
“Rest in peace Angie Dowds. So so sad."

In an interview in April Angie had said:
"Never give up. I try to live by that motto. I very nearly did once. I really hope I never do again."
