Following a meeting with the local AGE UK Office in Canterbury, the organisers of Pride in Canterbury have accepted the kind offer of by AGE UK, Canterbury to display rainbow stickers at the entrance to their building in Canterbury.

A spokesperson for Pride in Canterbury, said:
AGE UK, were interested in and sympathetic towards, the aims of Pride in Canterbury, and are keen to learn, and instruct their staff, about the needs and issues of the older LGBT community.

"In the course of discussion, they asked whether it would helpful to display rainbow stickers at the entrance to their building and we were pleased to be able to explain, their importance and relevance, and the positive message that these symbols send out.

"This was a very encouraging step forward in a City where, in spite of the Equality Act, an out and proud LGBT community is non-existent and few business and organisations, including the City Council seem interested in our needs and issues. Sadly, no rainbow flags fly proudly over Canterbury.

"For at least 8 years now, at Pride in Canterbury we have been saying to the City Council, without success, that it would be financially beneficial to Canterbury, and to the surrounding area, for them to publicise widely a willingness to welcome, LGBT visitors, and indeed residents, to the City. Canterbury should recognise the value of 'The Pink Pound', especially in these difficult financial times.

"To facilitate this, and encouraged by the positive attitude of Age UK, we are working with a Chatham based company, 'Banana Rainbow', who have supported Canterbury, and Thanet, Gay Pride Days, and they have generously donated some of these stickers to us.

"We will provide these stickers free of charge to any gay-friendly businesses and organisations in the City, Whitstable and Herne Bay, if they contact us  at prideincanterbury@btinternet.com
