Tory councillor asks if black and gay candidates are there to "tick boxes"

A Tory councillor in Surrey has questioned the choice of candidates on
a shortlist made up of three women, a gay man and two men from ethnic
minority groups.
Beverley Connolly said:
"I'm sure they are all eminently able...It's not a reflection on their abilities or personalities but you have to ask if people are there just to tick boxes."
According to Conservative Campaign Headquarters the men all have a wide experience in politics are none could be considered "lightweight".
