Research conducted by PinkNews.co.uk has shown popularity for the Tories amongst the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community has dropped by 30% in just under a year.

In June last year 39% of a sample of 911 LGBT people stated they intended to vote Conservative at the general election. Today only 9% of the sample said that they'd vote Tory.

The most recent polling of the sample shows the Lib Dems as the most popular choice, gaining 58% support.

Support for the Conservatives stood at 17% in 2005. Labour support has fallen from 29% in 2005 to 21% today. Lib Dems have increased from 20% to 58% while Greens have dropped from 10% to 8%.

Some commentators believe that the fall in the Tories' popularity can be attributed to recent gaffes such as Chris Grayling saying that B&B owners should be able to turn away gay couples, and Dr Julian Lewis saying that lowering the gay age of consent in 2005 was an HIV risk.
