The NSPCC are asking Christmas shoppers to make a donation to the children's charity instead of buying more traditional gifts. For each donation given, a nominated family member or friend will get a personalised card with a pop-out bauble.
A spokesman for the NSPCC said:
"For most of us, the festive season is a happy time spent with our loved ones. However, we know that for many, this time of year can be a time of loneliness or family tensions. Last year our ChildLine service counselled more than 3,500 children throughout the festive period, children who called us because they needed someone to turn to.
"Celebrate and Give this Christmas by making a donation to the NSPCC and giving a gift that can really change a child’s life. We’ll send your friend or family member a personalised Christmas card with a fun pop-out bauble. By hanging this on their tree, it will remind them of the special gift you’ve given them.
“Sometimes presents, however lovingly given, end up gathering dust in the cupboard. Celebrate and Give this Christmas is one way to avoid this and give a gift that can really change a child’s life.
"So give someone an amazing gift this year without any of the hassle of trudging round shops or queuing up at the till."
