Schools Out, the group campaigning for LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) equality in education, broadly welcomed the announcement that sex and relationships education will be compulsory. But it was critical of the government's handling of sex education within faith schools.
Co-chair Sue Sanders said:
“It’s a huge step in the right direction. Every child has the right to know that they are part of a society that includes LGBT people, and every teenager has the right to life-saving information abut safer sex.
