LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) History Month will have its official launch at the School's Out conference, in London’s Drill Hall theatre, on Sat Feb 6. The conference will include a DVD premiere, a panel discussion, a theatre performance, reports, presentations and workshops.

This year’s LGBT History Month, celebrated throughout February, will continue the theme of Education and Young People, and more schools than ever are organising special events, lessons and assemblies.

School's Out Co-chair Tony Fenwick said:
“Schools must become safer places, where all people are cherished for their diversity. The month provides schools with a reason to raise LGBT issues and promote equality.”

Last November, the British Museum hosted a pre-launch, which has already inspired a record number of events planned before February even starts. It also launched a "virtual trail", on its website, of artefacts showing same sex desire and gender variance throughout history.

The theme for 2011 and the Olympic year 2012 will be Sport. LGBT History Month recently appointed rugby legend Gareth Thomas as a patron. He is already talking about a joint project, to raise the profile of LGBT people in sport.
